The Kadambas ruled over Goa from 1020 AD to about 1327 AD after replacing the Shilahars. They were routed by invasions of Mohammed Tuglak.
They ruled from the ancient capital of Chandrapur till about 1049 when they shifted to Gopakapatan or Govapuri which was better suited and prosperous due to the trade with Arabs. The Arabs referred to Chandrapur as Sandapur. There held prominant posts in the Kadamba government.
